Infrared thermography relies on temperature differences to produce images. Active techniques refer to the practice of introducing external force to create these differences. Pulsed active thermography is an example of this technique. It creates a temporary temperature change that can be measured. This technique, like non-destructive testing, allows the inspector to see inside without having to damage pipes or walls.
